Knowing Your Semen

By Andrew W John

If you think your semen is all sperm, then you are incorrect. In fact, only 1% of your semen is actually sperm, whereas 90% is just seminal fluids. These fluids include sugar and proteins. The remaining 9% is made up of nutrients and minerals. If you have wondered what your semen tastes like, you are not alone. Many men wonder this exact thing.

Did you know that semen actually contains calories? It’s true; every ejaculation will net between 12 and 15 calories for anyone who swallows it. The taste in semen can vary from person to person, depending on what your diet is like. Sometimes semen has a salty or bitter taste if someone isn’t eating the right kind of foods, which is something you want to avoid. If you want to make sure your partner enjoys the taste of the semen you need to make sure that it tastes better.

What you eat and drink can really affect the taste. To make sure you have semen that is pleasant for the person who is enjoying it, you need to have the right kind of diet. That starts with living a clean and healthy lifestyle. If you smoke, drink, or do drugs it can really affect the taste, so you need to be careful about how much you indulge in bad habits. You should also avoid junk foods or anything that is high in fat.

Instead you need to add fruits and vegetables into your diet, as well as drink a substantial amount of water which can actually increase the amount of fluid in your ejaculation. Drinking fruit juices also helps to make your semen taste better. Juices such as citrus, pineapple, or cranberry give your semen a much sweeter taste. Any fruit with sugar in it, such as mango, apples, grapes, or melons can also achieve the same sweet taste.

There are certainly some foods that you should avoid such as fish, and red meat. Although they may contain a lot of protein which is good for you once in a while, if you are planning a night of romance you should avoid them. Because of their alkaline content you can have a very bitter taste which is not pleasant for anyone. Foods that contain a great deal of onion and garlic can make the semen have an odor which also isn’t conducive to enjoyable lovemaking.

The volume of semen that you can produce is important as well. Factors such as age, general healthy, and genes can change the amount of the semen produced. Although you cannot change what Mother Nature gave you, by making dietary adjustments you can increase the volume of semen. There are also supplements you can take such as Zinc Oxide, L-Arginine, L-Lysine, and Horny Goat Weed that will help to increase the volume. What is important is that you stay hydrated to keep the water flowing into your bloodstream. Exercise also helps because it gives you good blood circulation that can help with erections and the level of semen produced.

If the idea of a stronger and longer male orgasm, coupled with a (up to) 500% increase in semen volume seems like something that would intrigue you, feel free to visit: Semenax.

Low Sperm Count Treatment – Conventional or Herbal Solution

By John T Harrison

Oligospermia (a.k.a. low sperm count) is a medical symptom affecting men and means having less than 20 million spermatozoa per milliliter of ejaculate. For relatively normal sperm count is considered 20 million or more per ml of semen.

Low sperm count is one of the main causes of male infertility. Although it takes only one sperm to fertilize the egg, the odds of a single sperm to reach the egg are considerably low if the overall sperm count is less than 20 million per milliliter. This is not a rule, just the common case, which means there are exceptions.

To conceive a child it is enough at least 60 percent of the spermatozoa to be normally shaped and have good motility. The minimum count of 20 million spermatozoa to conceive a child is not as accurate as one might think. Many men diagnosed with oligospermia have successfully fathered children.

Why do I have a low sperm count – that is the million dollar question in case of oligospermia

Unfortunately nine out of ten doctors will not be able to answer it. They will just diagnose you with idiopathic oligospermia, i.e. cause unknown. The tests that can answer that question are expensive and currently available only in labs conducting researches in that field, which explains why they are being used seldomly to determine the exact causes of that common men’s problem.

However, we must admit that this test is a breakthrough for the modern medicine and has enlightened the cause of low sperm count – oligospermia is probably caused by microdeletion on the Y-chromosome. Which most likely proves that it is a genetic disease and as we already know has nothing to do with men’s general health, physique, and sexual or diet habits.

There are two type of treatment – conventional and herbal.

Conventional treatment

It takes time and it is not easy. What is more this treatment does not treat the man and his problem alone; it might also involve his wife.

The treatment starts with the sperm survival test – sperm count is assessed by its motility. If there are more than 3 million motile sperm per milliliter, after 24 hours of being kept in special conditions, then the results are promising. If very little or none of the spermatozoa are alive after that period – the results are not good.

There are three types of treatment depending on the different sperm count:

1. Superovulation and intrauterine insemination – recommended when sperm count is just moderately decreased and the initial sperm count was 20 million. This method suggests improving woman’s fertility potential. This is the easiest treatment for men. If pregnancy does not ensue after 4 treatment cycles then it is advised to try the other treatments available:

2. IVF (in vitro fertilisation) – recommended when motile sperm count is more than 5 million in the ejaculate. This treatment tests if the sperm can fertilize the egg at first place. The egg and the sperm are incubated outside the woman’s womb for about 18 hours. If fertilization takes place for that time the chances for pregnancy are very good. If fertilization does not take place, the next treatment is:

3. ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) – recommended when motile sperm count is less than 5 million or if IVF has failed. A single sperm is injected directly into the egg. The fertilised egg is passed to a special growth medium and left for about 48 hours. ICSI aka microinjection is an advanced treatment that allows all infertile men to have children on their own, no matter how low their sperm count is.

Herbal treatment

It doesn’t hurt to try it as it is completely safe – there are not any side effects known. It’s much easier and quick compared to conventional treatment, as well as you will see and feel the results in very short period of time. That sounds surprisingly good, but is it really that great?

The Connection Between Antidepressants and Male Infertility

By Pauline Go

Did you know that there is a link between male infertility and taking antidepressants? Well, now you do. This was proven by a research conducted by Cornell Medical Center in New York where 35 men were given Seroxat and Paxil, both antidepressants, for a period of 5 weeks.

spermatogenesisInitially the sperm samples collected from the test subjects were considered to be normal. However, a closer look showed that the DNA in the sperm samples was broken. Before all the men started taking drugs, just 13 percent of men exhibited fragmented DNA in their sperm samples. However, after the antidepressants were introduced, this figure jumped to 30 percent. This figure was significant enough to worry the doctors who immediately diagnosed these men with fertility problems.

This research was indeed quite a breakthrough for male fertility issues as now there are indications that rising male infertility may be caused by antidepressant.

In the United States, around 5 percent of the male population is presently on antidepressants, and this figure is gradually increasing as more and more men are demanding antidepressants from their doctors to cope with day-to-day stress.

In addition, antidepressants are also known to case other sex-related problems like erectile dysfunction, inability to attain orgasm and loss of libido. All these are significant especially if you are planning to start a family.

For a long time doctors have been wondering whether antidepressants and male fertility were connected. Now with this research, their worst fears have been confirmed.

If you are planning a family and you are on antidepressants, postpone starting a family for the moment. Seek advice from your doctor and inform him or her that you are interested in stopping your medication. Your doctor might advice you to consider alternative treatments to help you with your stress and depression, which may include counseling and relaxation techniques. However, if the doctor insists that you continue with your medication, then ask him or her to change the drug as it may have a profound effect on the quality of your sperm.

How to Get Pregnant – Factors in Healthy Sperm

By Boston Reynolds

If you and your partner are trying to get pregnant, by now you realize that it takes both of you to be in optimal position, in order for it to work. The fertility of the male partner focuses primarily on two things, sperm quality and quantity. This can be affected by a wide variety of things, not all of which are under your control.

However, there are three basics to healthy sperm that don’t vary. They are the three characteristics that your sperm needs to exemplify in order for you to have the best chance of conceiving a baby. If you are on the low end of the scale in all three, then you will struggle to create one naturally.

Factor in healthy sperm #1 — Quantity. In order for the male to be fertile, he needs to have 20 million sperm per milliter of semen. This is probably hard for you to measure on your own. Of the several million sperm that get ejaculated into the woman, as few as 200 actually reach the egg, and only one needs penetrate it to fertilize it. As you can see, this is a terrible ratio. If you are only producing 10 or 15 million sperm per milliter, you are greatly reducing your chances of one finding its way inside the egg.

Factor in healthy sperm #2 — Quality. Not surprisingly, it’s not enough to just have a lot of sperm in your semen. The shape and structure of the sperm itself are also important factors. You are fertile if more than a third of your sperm is of a normal shape, called morphology. A normal looking sperm has an oval head, and a long tail that it uses to propel itself forward. Sperm that have oversided, tapered, or crooked heads tend to struggle finding their way to the goal. Likewise, sperm with double tails, or curled or otherwise bent ones, are unlikely to make it all the way in.

Factor in healthy sperm #3 — Motion. To reach the egg, your sperm need to be good “swimmers.” Riding the force of the ejaculation will only take them so far in, and not far enough to actually reach the egg. Sperm need to move on their own, wriggling and swimming the last few inches to reach the end. Fast and free movement is an important aspect of healthy sperm. At least half of your sperm need to be good swimmers, in order to truly be fertile.

As you can see, having a lot of healthy sperm is vital to your efforts to make a baby. With such a low ratio of sperm to success, the more you have, the higher quality they are, and the better motility they have, the better off you will be.

Figuring out how to get pregnant is different for everyone, and every couple has a different challenge. However, there are things that you can do that will greatly help their chances. If this sounds like you, you should continue on to the next page, and read the success stories of dozens of couples who have succeeded. Keep Reading

Male Infertility – The Top Five Vitamins to Increase Sperm Count and Improve Sperm Mobility

By Cathy Campbell

You may think you already eat a healthy, well balanced diet – but these days even if you do eat the amount of fruit and vegetables that you should do, they may not have been grown in soil that contains the minerals that are necessary to produce food that contains the essentials that you need. A vitamin supplement may therefore be a very good way of ensuring that you are getting all the necessary elements for successful fertilization.

There are vitamin and mineral supplements that are specifically formulated for male infertility – key antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals – as well as the amino-acid L-Carnitine – ingredients that have been scientifically proven to improve male fertility and your overall reproductive health.

When you are evaluating a course of supplements you need to check that they contain the following top five ingredients needed to increase male fertility:

1. Vitamin C – is an antioxidant, these neutralise free radicals, essential for general well being. Vitamin C can be found in citrus fruits such as oranges and grapefruit and brightly colored vegetables such as cabbage, peppers and broccoli. Vitamin C does not only improve the sperm count and sperm motility it can also stop sperm clumping together a condition known as sperm agglutination. The recommended daily intake of vitamin C is 500-1000 mg per day.

2. Vitamin E – is another antioxidant and is of benefit to both males and females to ensure fertility. Found in food sources such as whole grains, seeds and nuts. Vitamin E supplies to strength to help the sperm penetrate the egg and achieve conception. A minimum of 4mg of Vitamin E is recommended daily.

3. Vitamin B12- Is another vitamin that helps to improve sperm count and sperm motility. Beef, lamb and liver are high sources of B12, and the recommended intake is 1.5 mcg per day. Taking this amount of B12 has been shown to lead to the improvement of sperm counts in 60% of users.

4. Arginine – is not a vitamin, it is an essential amino acid and is required to produce sperm and to improve sperm motility. Arginine can be found in nuts, seeds and soy products. Taking the recommended daily intake of 4g per day has been shown in controlled studies that 74% of men have shown a marked improvement in sperm count and sperm motility when measured over a three month period.

5. Zinc – another essential element in male fertility. Lamb, beef, chicken and dairy, all protein foods are also rich in zinc. Zinc has to be replenished regularly because every time a man ejaculates he can lose up to 5mg of zinc. The absorption of zinc is inhibited by smoking, alcohol and caffeine, so a supplement is essential. The recommended daily intake of zinc is 10 – 30 mg per day.

Taking a vitamin supplement is a quick and easy first step to sorting out your male infertility. But do not presume that more is better, do not take more than the recommended number of tablets daily. Also, if you are visiting you doctor inform him that you are taking a supplement.

Do not rely on supplements alone, make an effort to improve your diet, make sure you give up smoking, and try to reduce your alcohol intake. All these steps will help you combat male infertility.

Make Money Donating Sperm – A Necessary Service!

By Jamie Hunter

Don’t think this is a taboo subject, for sperm donation is an essential service that is necessary to help those who can not have children themselves. Sperm donation is an encouraged choice and, like blood donation, is carried out in medically controlled circumstances and by qualified personnel.

It’s all private and anonymous too – you perform in private and deliver in your own time, and your sperm is kept for future recipients who may wish to access a sperm bank for the purpose of fertilization.

Sperm banks are nationally controlled and administered services that hold sperm for users, although there are some private organizations that perform the same service – in both cases privacy is absolutely guaranteed.

Whereas in the past the donation of sperm may have been held very much as the domain of the dirty Mac brigade, there is no perversion involved in the act of giving sperm – it is a service you are providing, after all.

Think of it as giving someone else a helping hand and the charitable aspects come to the fore – as does the fact that you are getting paid!

Sperm donations can be given on a regular basis, and the pay can be very lucrative; this is a popular way of earning extra money among the likes of students and the low paid, and with only an initial test for fertility required is a painless and trouble free way of guaranteeing a regular extra income.

Register now with a sperm donation service in your state, and you may find it’s money you’ve been missing out on for a long time!
